Paris After Dark: Piper’s Playhouse Opens at Crown Melbourne

Melbourne’s nightlife is about to get a Parisian upgrade. Opening 22 January, Piper’s Playhouse arrives within Crown Melbourne as a limited-season immersive cabaret club — an intoxicating blend of glamour, indulgence and late-night theatre inspired by the hedonistic spirit of Montmartre.

Hidden behind velvet curtains in an elevated riverside setting, Piper’s Playhouse is a bespoke Parisian cabaret fantasy brought to life by the Crown Entertainment team in collaboration with award-winning production house Velvick Inc. Running Thursday to Sunday until 28 March, the experience invites guests into an intimate world where champagne flows freely, music lingers in the air, and every corner promises discovery.

As Piper-Heidsieck Champagne sparkles into the night, the venue transforms into an immersive playground. Live jazz from the Jake Amy Trio — blending jazz, R&B, hip-hop and soul — soundtracks the evening as cabaret unfolds around the room. Guests wander through mirrored halls, encounter discreet petit peep shows, experience intimate tableside magic and lose themselves in moments that ensure no two nights are ever the same.

Leading the spectacle is international drag sensation Jimi the Kween, whose high-energy glamour and fearless self-expression set the tone for the evening. With past collaborations spanning Kylie Minogue, Diplo, Honey Dijon and Paris Hilton, Jimi’s magnetic presence guides guests through Piper’s Playhouse with unapologetic flair.

Sharing centre stage is Diesel Darling, reigning Miss Burlesque Australia 2020–21. Known as the “Danger Barbie,” Diesel fuses grit and glamour through daring aerial splits, champagne-glass spectacle and high-octane movement. Together, the duo deliver performances that are bold, seductive and unforgettable — the heartbeat of Piper’s Playhouse.

The experience is elevated further by a world-class cast of cabaret and circus performers, including illusionist Sebastian Rideaux (Mr Marmalade), artistic director and maître d’ Valerie Hex, bubble artist Becky Bubble, contortionist Soliana Ersie, aerialist Aleisha Manion, burlesque and musical theatre star Zelia Rose Kitoko, and singer-burlesque performer Clara Fable — each bringing their own magic to the night.

When the final act concludes, Piper’s Playhouse seamlessly shifts into a free-entry late-night salon — a piano bar with the swagger of Vegas and the romance of Paris at dawn — inviting guests to linger, revel and indulge well into the early hours.

With only 260 seats per show and a strictly limited season, Piper’s Playhouse is set to become one of Melbourne’s most coveted after-dark experiences this summer — a celebration of artistry, indulgence and champagne-soaked nights.
