All Aboard: Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express Arrives in Australia in 2027
The legendary murder mystery is coming to Australia, with Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre set to host the production from June 2027, bringing suspense, intrigue and old-world glamour to the stage.
Few murder mysteries have captivated audiences quite like Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. In 2027, one of the world’s most celebrated whodunits will arrive in Australia, with acclaimed theatre producer John Frost bringing Ken Ludwig’s adaptation to Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre from June, ahead of further tour venue announcements.
Presented in association with Fiery Angel and Agatha Christie Limited, the production follows successful Australian tours of The Mousetrap and And Then There Were None. Having already enjoyed an acclaimed tour across the UK, Ireland and Mainland China, this lavish theatrical adaptation promises to bring Christie’s ingenious storytelling to life with all the suspense, wit and intrigue that have made her work timeless.

A murder aboard the most glamorous train in the world
Set in winter 1934, the story begins when an avalanche brings the legendary Orient Express to an abrupt halt. Inside one of its compartments, an American tycoon is discovered murdered, stabbed eight times in a locked room. With the train stranded in the snow and a killer still among the passengers, the pressure falls on the world’s most famous detective, Hercule Poirot, to solve a seemingly impossible crime.
As suspicion spreads and secrets begin to surface, every passenger becomes a potential suspect. Expect a gripping game of deception, unexpected revelations and a final twist that has cemented the story’s place in mystery history.

Classic mystery meets theatrical spectacle
Directed by acclaimed British theatre director Lucy Bailey, the production balances the tension of a classic murder investigation with flashes of dark humour. Bailey, known for her atmospheric approach to thrillers and her work on the West End hit Witness for the Prosecution, brings a distinctive vision to Christie’s iconic tale.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Mike Britton, lighting designer Oliver Fenwick, movement director Leah Hausman, sound designer Mic Pool and video designer Ian William Galloway. Together, they create a richly atmospheric theatrical world that captures the glamour of 1930s rail travel while keeping audiences immersed in the mystery.
John Frost describes the production as stylish, fast-paced and darkly witty, promising a theatrical experience that combines intricate plotting with striking design and opulent costumes.
For those who love classic detective stories, lavish period settings and the thrill of trying to solve a mystery before the detective does, this is one theatrical journey worth adding to the calendar.
